I ‘m not talking about weird and wacky cakes that look like they are something straight out of Alice in Wonderland (but that would be okay too if it’s what you love). I just love the idea of choosing unique and interesting cakes for a wedding. Whether you are going with one large cake or several small cakes, choose flavors that you and your partner really love. You don’t have to stick to the list of flavors suggested by your baker either. Why not ask if they are willing to try something different and creative (of course you may want to sample it first)?
Looking for interesting cakes? Check out Canadian blogger, baking goddess and self confessed cake addict, Rosie at Sweetapolita. We found so many amazing cakes on the Sweetapolita site. Why not get creative with flavors? You can even choose a cake that matches your overall wedding concept!
If you love s’mores and you’re planning a camping style wedding…wouldn’t this S’mores cake be just incredible? It’s called Campfire Delight and it’s six layers of of rich Belgian chocolate malted and toasted marshmallows. Seriously mouth-watering right?
I haven’t yet had the pleasure of sampling this cake, but according to Sweetapolita, “this cake is possibly the most delicious cake I’ve ever made…6 layers of dark, moist chocolate cake sandwiching alternating rich and fluffy frosting: satiny Belgian chocolate malted frosting and creamy toasted-marshmallow vanilla frosting with bits of actual crispy marshmallow in every bite. Strangely, the finished cake is not really super sweet–it’s more rich, light, and creamy sweet…”. Wow!
How about this next cake? Ruffles are making a serious statement on wedding cakes right now (I’ll save that for another post). Check out this Rich and Ruffled Chocolate Celebration cake via Sweetapolita.
Don’t you just adore the sweet ruffles? Buttercream and chocolate cake anyone?
Perhaps you are a little more traditional? Vanilla doesn’t have to be boring! I saw this next cake on the Sweetapolita blog too and couldn’t help think how perfect it would be for an all white, winter wedding theme. And if you love vanilla, you will love this cake! The Whiteout Cake! Rosie says: “This cake… triple-layer moist vanilla cake filled and frosted with a unique, satiny white chocolate frosting…it whips up smooth, creamy, and satiny–the ultimate texture for frosting and decorating. I also love that the frosting has no icing (confectioners’) sugar, but rather a warm, thickened milk, cream, sugar, and flour mixture that is then whipped along with the butter, vanilla, and melted white chocolate. I was sure to use Belgian white chocolate for the ultimate taste”.
Or, how about a Lemon-Blueberry Layer Cake or a Lavender and Lemon cake?
For those that can’t decide on one flavor; choose them all! A cake bar would be in order complete with several different cake flavors and cupcakes. Imagine several different, delicious cakes and cupcakes on pretty cake stands…
Yum!
