I had been thinking about a romantic picnic in the mountains for some time and was thrilled when Kim from Kim Payant Photography suggested that we create one for Breanne and Tristan, our couple who is getting married in Canmore. I had always thought that the rocky beach overlooking Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park would be the perfect spot for a romantic picnic for two and a styled engagement session!
Kim captured gorgeous photos of the couple in this fun engagment session; check out more of her beautiful photos on the Canadian Mountain Chic. It’s a beautiful feature with lots of great photos!
Breanne and Tristan have a modern sensibility in terms of their wedding decor, so I thought instead of using a traditional picnic basket, I would create something for them with a more modern feel. I thought something more sturdy, something you could toss in the back of your vehicle and fill with food before hitting the mountains, would be perfect for Breanne and Tristan’s visit to the mountains.
I created a wood picnic crate for it’s functionality and personalized it with their name and wedding date. Both Kim and I thought it could make a cute card box at their wedding too and it could be used to store all those wedding mementos after the wedding (wedding stationery, cards, favours, menu etc.)!
We filled the crate with quintessential picnic food, sandwiches, salad in a jar, fresh fruit and of course local favorites such as Grizzly Paw soda and chocolate “bear’s paws”.
I also made the couple a maple wood cutting board and personalized it with their names and wedding date. Not only could this be used for the picnic, but hopefully something they can use in their home after the wedding!
Although forest fires in Banff National Park, north of Banff and in British Columbia made for some hazy views, it didn’t dampen Breanne and Tristan’s spirits and Kim captured some unique and amazing landscape photos for their engagement session.
Thank you to Breanne and Tristan!! Thank you to Kim for the beautiful images!
